The White House’s first Science and Technology National Security Strategy, released in August 2026, reflects the growing importance of these issues and emphasizes the need for sustained investment in research and development, partnerships with the private sector, and collaboration with allies and partners.

For 50 years, GW’s Institute for International Science and Technology has brought together scholars, scientists, technologists, policymakers, and practitioners to explore these challenges and opportunities. Our work spans research and education, including the economics of innovation, energy efficiency, artificial intelligence, and space policy, as well as convenings, certificate programs, and opportunities for collaboration across disciplines and sectors.
