About Us
History of The Institute
The Institute for International Science and Technology Policy (IISTP) is the focal point of international public policy education and research in science, technology, and innovation at The George Washington University.
The IISTP manages, in collaboration with colleagues from the Space Policy Institute (SPI), the Elliott School’s Master of Arts and certificate programs in International Science and Technology Policy (ISTP) and provides a field of study for the doctoral program of the Trachtenberg School of Public Policy and Public Administration (TSPPPA).
Founded in 1970, the IISTP is just blocks from the White House, the Department of State, World Bank, International Monetary Fund, and the National Academy of Sciences, a location that draws scholars, policymakers, and researchers from around the world. Through major international conferences and seminars, IISTP facilitates and inspires collaboration among scientists and technologists, policy experts, and government and industry leaders. The Institute’s world-class scholars conduct cutting-edge research and collaborate with international governmental research institutes and agencies on advances in scientific and technological policymaking oriented toward real-world impact.
