The Athens Roundtable on AI and the Rule of Law

Since our last convening, the AI landscape has undergone a seismic shift. The rise of general-purpose AI systems, foundation models, and generative AI have brought a new urgency to discussions around AI development, deployment and governance.

We look forward to bringing past and new participants together to examine collective challenges, including increasing safety and security concerns, the ubiquitous presence of generative AI in consumer digital products and services, increased concentration of power by big technology corporations, shifts in geopolitical dynamics, and the growing need for international coordination on trustworthy AI.

The fifth edition will:
Discuss a comprehensive approach to the governance of generative AI and foundation models, encompassing safety assessments, security measures, and regulatory strategies from development to deployment.
Examine how international coordination and institutional innovation can address geopolitical and market pressures in AI governance while upholding fundamental rights.

Whether in-person in D.C. or online, you’ll have a chance to interact and network with the speakers and other participants. Although there is no limit for online participation, please note in-person seats are limited and subjected to a waiting list once we’ve reached capacity.
