Ms. Hwa-Yong Ahn is a senior researcher at the The National Research Foundation of Korea (NRF). At NRF, she is responsible for the general planning management, research management, planning & budget, and accounting. She is also a recipient of the Minister Award, Ministry of Science and Technology (MOST), Deputy Prime Minister award, Ministry of Finance & Economy, and President award.
Mr. Mischa Hansel – Germany
Mischa Hansel was born in Bergisch-Gladbach (Germany) in 1979. He studied political science, medieval and modern history and German philology at the University of Cologne and graduated in 2006. Since 2007 Mischa Hansel has been Ph.D. candidate and teaching assistant at the Chair for International Politics and Foreign Policy Analysis at the University of Cologne, headed by Prof. Dr. Thomas Jager. At the end of 2007, he also became a member of the editorial staff of the “Zeitschrift furAussen- und Sicherheitspolitik” [Journal of Foreign Policy and Security Policy]. Mischa Hansel taught courses on international politics, methods of social science and causes of war studies at the University of Cologne and Matej Bel University Banska Bystrica (Slovakia). He also worked at the German Armed Forces General and Staff Academy in Hamburg in March 2007 and at the European Space Policy Institute (ESPI) in Vienna in 2008. His research interests include causes of war studies, strategic studies and security in space and cyberspace. His dissertation on “US Military Space Policy and Strategic Competition in the Information Age” is supported by a dissertation grant from the Konrad-Adenauer-Foundation. During his stay at the Space Policy Institute from August 1st till September 30th he intends to talk to US officials and policy experts on the interrelations between space strategy and conventional military power.
Roselene Chaves – Brazil
Mrs. Roselene Chaves is an agribusiness researcher of the Brazilian Agricultural Research Corporation (EMBRAPA) at the Ministry of Agriculture and Supply (MAPA) – Brazil. At EMBRAPA, she is responsible for the management of marketing and technology transfer programs for staple foods. Nowadays she is nearing the dissertation phase of the PhD program in Agribusiness (Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil). Her interests include patterns of science and technology policies to public R&D toward embrace the concepts of knowledge-intensive production and sustainability in agri-business sector.
Dr. Myoung-Hwan Ahn – Korea (September 2007 – August 2009)
Dr. Myoung-Hwan was the director of Global Environmental System Research Team at National Meteorological Research Institute of Korea Meteorological Administration (KMA). He has a BS degree from Seoul National University and a PhD degree in Meteorology from the University of Maryland in College Park. At KMA, his main responsibility was the development of scientific algorithms to derive geophysical parameters from the earth observing satellites inculding meteorological satellites. Especially, he was the PI for the development of Meteorological Data Processing System for the Korea’s first geostationary meteorological satellite planned to be launched in 2009. He also served as a committee member for the revision of Korea’s Long Term Space Developemnt Plan in 2000 and 2005. His major interests in SPI are in the policy development for the effective utlization of R&D satellite data into the operational meteorology and application of operational meteorological satellite to climate resarch.
Daichi Harada – Japan (April 2008 – March 2009) Senior specialist of Space and Aeronautics Policy Division at the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT), Government of Japan. He has been involved mostly in S&T policy, space policy at MEXT and even while he was loaned to the Cabinet Secretariat. His interests include U.S. space policy development and other related policy issues including space-based PNT and S&T. .
Wataru Todoroki – Japan (April 2008 – March 2009)
Mr. Wataru Todoroki is a senior specialist of the Research and Development Bureau at the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology-Japan(MEXT). Formerly, he was in charge of creating the guideline for research and development evaluation at MEXT and also in charge of evaluating independent administrative institutions. In addition, he worked on the integration of two nuclear research institutes to establish the Japan Atomic Energy Agency.
Yeon Sik Ha – Korea (February 2008 – January 2009)
Yeon Sik Ha was the Director of Strategic Technology Planning Center at Korea Research Institute of Standard Science (KRISS). He has been working at KRISS for about twenty-four years and involving mostly in evaluation and strategic technology planning. Most recently, he took part in various policy studies including comparative study of government R&D programs and technology planning.
Mr. Donghun Lee – Korea (October 2007 – September 2008)
Mr. Donghun Lee is a senior researcher with R&D program management team at the Korea Science Engineering Foundation (KOSEF). At KOSEF, he is responsible for the management of R&D program, especially audit of R&D projects. He does a research on examining and analysing US’s international science and technology policy and programs.
